I am filled with joy and gratitude for the many ways God has provided for us over the past twenty-one years. Many of you have been an important part of making our life and mission a reality. With the help of God, we have worked hard to lay a solid spiritual foundation upon which to build our religious community. God has continued to inspire women to join us, providing living stones to rebuild His Church.
We now have a wonderful challenge! We have outgrown the section of our motherhouse that we completed in 1997. On August 8, 2009, we received three new candidates, and we already have women in the application process for 2010. We recently opened our third mission house on the main campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville (our first was in downtown Steubenville, Ohio and the second in Gaming, Austria), but we cannot sustain our growth solely through opening up mission houses.
During our General Chapter in 2008, we carefully assessed our human resources and growth rate, and we sought the Spirit’s guidance in how He is leading us to go forward. It became evident that in order for us to grow in a stable way, we would need to build the next phase of our motherhouse, including Father of Mercy Chapel. This building project would provide for our expanding formational needs as well as creating a central gathering space to keep alive the spiritual vitality and common bond shared by the community.
We have worked hard this year to design our motherhouse residence and Father of Mercy Chapel in the most efficient way to meet our immediate needs, as well as to plan for our future growth. We have 75% of the funds necessary (3.7 million dollars). With a good portion of the funds provided, and given our immediate needs, we have proceeded with the construction. We still need to raise 1.5 million.
We are so appreciative for your ongoing support of our life and mission. While maintaining your annual support, we are asking you to consider making an additional donation toward our motherhouse and chapel. We believe with all our hearts and minds that God is asking us to make this leap in faith so that, with more members, we can increase our mission to make known God’s merciful love. For those who have not been inspired to financially support our community in the past, we ask you to consider assisting us at this time. This is a significant undertaking, and we need the support of as many of our family and friends as possible.
